Transportation Planning/Community Outreach Intern (REF: USPL16)

Location: Glendale, CA

Steer Davies Gleave is seeking a paid intern to assist with its Glendale-area projects. The intern will spend approximately 16 hours per week over an approximate period of 6 months, beginning in September 2017. The intern will be located at our Glendale, CA, office, specifically to support our “Go Verdugo” project. Duties for this position are described in more detail below in the Summary of Duties section. 

With a dedicated mentor, this is a fantastic opportunity for a successful intern to develop practical and transferable consultancy skills within the transportation sector, to build upon the educational learning and academic experience received to date.

Summary of duties:

Go Verdugo marketing, outreach and grant administration (Glendale office)
Go Verdugo is a partnership between the cities of Burbank, Pasadena, and Glendale to reduce commute trips and encourage alternative modes of transportation in the Arroyo Verdugo Region. Funded by a Metro Grant, the program is administered by Go Glendale, a non-profit transportation management association (TMA) (

You’ll be involved in:

  • Marketing and outreach to employers, property managers, and commuters for the ‘Go Verdugo’ grant project. The Go Verdugo system offers a multi-modal trip planning website, incentives and transit subsidies to local commuters. (
  • Coordination with stakeholder cities to develop new leads and recruit new corporate participants. 
  • Planning and attending events and meetings, such as transportation fairs and employer lunch & learns. 
  • Implementing a comprehensive social media strategy featuring unique content. 
  • Administering transit passes and mini-grant funds to participants. 
  • Assisting employers and commuters with inquiries over phone/email.

Applicant Qualifications:

Applicants must currently be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program (for Spring, Summer or Fall 2017), and be passionate about promoting the use of alternative travel modes. Previous marketing and community outreach experience are strongly preferred. 

Applicants must have the right to work for Steer Davies Gleave in the US.

A knowledge of transportation in the Los Angeles area is an advantage but not essential.
