SDG Economic Development– Senior Consultant/Principal Consultant (REF: NBSDG1)

Location: Leeds and/or Manchester 

SDG Economic Development is seeking to recruit experienced economic development professionals with a range of relevant technical skills who can manage challenging projects. The role involves working with existing clients and developing new relationships. The practice advises on how the economic potential of places and their assets can be realised, in ways which understand the tensions that are often present in space-, people-, or knowledge-constrained situations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Project delivery, including managing project teams, work plans and budgets;
  • Effective business development by helping build the team’s profile in the market, and leading/supporting the submission of high quality proposals; and
  • Management and supervision of junior members of the team.

Desired Experience and Attributes

  • Educated to degree level with a 2:1 or equivalent, preferably in Economics, Geography, Mathematics, Operational Research, Engineering, or other numerical or economics-related subjects;
  • Passionate about the role of economic development in developing and regenerating places, sectors, and markets;
  • Understanding of how economic development ‘works’ (i.e. how knowledge, skills, infrastructure, enterprise, and competition come together to make for success;
  • Highly adept in project management with demonstrable experience;
  • Good understanding of UK, subnational, and European policy frameworks and guidance;
  • Able to communicate complex issues to lay audiences;
  • Strong skills in data manipulation and analysis across a range of software packages (e.g. MS Excel, SPSS etc.), as well as experience of using national datasets relating to the UK’s economy;
  • Ability to communicate complex analysis succinctly, effectively and convincingly to specialist and non-specialist audiences; and
  • A demonstrable ability to coach, mentor and build the capability of junior members of the team.

The position offered (Senior Consultant or Principal Consultant) will depend upon the experience and skills of the successful candidate/s.
