Transportation Business Strategy and Financing Professional (Ref: US1)

Location: Any of our USA offices (Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Washington)

Steer Davies Gleave is seeking to recruit a professional that will lead financial work in North America, both in the US and Canada. You will lead the development of business and financial models to support Business Strategies, Business Case Assessments and bid support to our clients.

You will collaborate with our Business and Financial Modelling London based team, and especially work closely with North American Team colleagues in other disciplines including: Business Strategy and Operations (aviation and infrastructure team), Economics and Policy, Traffic and Revenue (transit, rail and road), etc.

You will have the technical skills and understanding of the market required to lead the financial work-streams in the North American market. You will work closely with existing clients and also develop relationships with new clients in other disciplines.

Steer Davies Gleave is an employee-owned international transportation consulting firm. We advise clients in the public and private sectors on policy and regulatory issues, infrastructure investments, service optimization, and planning or business strategy.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead financial work streams within projects, ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently;
  • Work closely with other SDG team members to ensure the financial work stream is fully integrated with the rest of the project;
  • Specify and manage the development of business and financial models, underpinning SDG’s advice to clients;
  • Understand and model key accounting and tax calculations employed in financial models;
  • Develop models that involve the integration of operating models into financial models to produce forecast integrated financial statements and key performance indicators;
  • Conduct internal and external review of business and financial modelling work undertaken by others as part of SDG’s quality management procedures;
  • Support financial advisory services on transport funding and financing and interaction with business case analysis;
  • Work closely with the Head of other Business Units to identify opportunities and win new work;
  • Contribute towards the submission of effective proposals in order to support work winning for the team;
  • Broaden and deepen their own skill set in order to improve marketability to our clients and as internal project resource;
  • Contribute to effective team performance.

Requirements

  • Experience of leading and the development of business and financial models for financial evaluation, bidding or funding purposes, ideally for transport projects (rail, aviation or infrastructure);
  • Experience of providing financial advisory in the transport sector;
  • Experience of leading development and use of business and financial models to test sensitivities and different scenarios;
  • Experience of leading development of integrated financial statements, typically producing an income statement, cash flow and balance sheet;
  • Evidence of strong understanding of accounting and financing;
  • Understanding of modelling best practice and demonstrate experience in its application;
  • Ability to sense-check own work and that of others systematically;
  • Highly numerate with excellent analytical capability;
  • Experience of business development, work winning and proposal writing;
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with the confidence to advise clients at senior management level;
  • Good team collaboration skills, able to work collaboratively with colleagues in other disciplines to provide the best solution for the client;
  • Education to degree standard, ideally in a numerate subject (such as Economics, Engineering or Maths).

The position, grade and salary offered will depend upon your skills and experience.
