Assistant Consultant / Graduate (REF:LA2)

Location: Latin America

To join Steer Davies Gleave as a business resource to support the delivery of a range of projects, and to assist with other company activities. An Assistant Consultant will be expected to perform an operational role as part of an existing team. It is intended that the Assistant Consultant will build a compliment (breadth and depth) of skills that will enable them to take on a client facing consultancy role within 2 years.

Key Accountabilities:

The key activities and accountabilities will depend on the specific work area, however all Consultants will be expected to:

  • To learn specific processes and applications to be able to deliver on project work effectively
  • To be able to meet all Balanced Score Card targets and objectives set
  • To broaden and deepen their own skill set in order to improve their marketability to our clients and as an internal project resource
  • To be able to contribute to effective team performance both individually and by making suggestions.
  • To manage and drive their own career path and network
  • To take a proactive role in participating in region/office, company and graduate events
  • To provide technical expertise where necessary


All levels of client contacts, managers and employees within the organisation

Qualifications and Training:

Educated to Degree level – 2:1 (or equivalent) from the following disciplines:

  • Economics, Maths, Operational Research, Engineering or other numerate subject; or
  • Transport Planning, Geography, or other transport-related subject.
  • An MSc would be an advantage particularly if the first degree was not in a relevant subject

Job Skills and Knowledge: 


  • Client liaison - ability to communicate effectively with clients both over the telephone and face to face 
  • Project management and delivery - Ability to deliver good quality work within the appropriate timeframes
  • Commercial awareness - demonstrates intelligent understanding of the transport sector, the immediate market place and the key factors affecting it
  • Communication - understands own behaviour and impact on others, and backs up opinions with well-constructed, evidenced arguments. 
  • Analytical skills - supports development of analytical frameworks, undertakes analytical work with limited supervision and makes sensible judgments on the basis of the available information
  • Writing and reporting - writes clearly, succinctly and accurately
  • Self- management - ability to deliver good quality work within the appropriate timeframes abd be supportive of other team members
  • Technical skills - ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to use Microsoft packages, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Fluency in two languages out of Spanish / English / Portuguese is desirable
